EMS Student Dress Code Hot Spots

2021 - 2022

This document does not contain all components of the dress code and is used only to clarify problem areas.  The board-approved dress code can be found in the student handbook on page 47 - 50.

  • Clothes should always have a proper fit and always cover undergarments.  Appropriate undergarments are required.

  • Leggings will be allowed under jeans with holes, as long the holes are at or below the knee. If there is a hole above the knee, it MUST be neatly patched from the inside. 

  • No tank tops, spaghetti strap tops, racerback, or low cut clothing (neck or underarm).

  • Sleeveless shirts are not allowed for males and must follow the “three finger rule” for females. 

  • All shirt styles must extend below the hipline when students are sitting and/or when arms are raised.

  •  No “Sagging,” “Bagging,” or “Dragging” of pants.

  • Pajama style pants, cutoffs, short shorts, or boxer shorts are not allowed.

  • Hoods, bandannas, caps, or head covers should not be worn while inside any campus building.

  • Flip flops, shower shoes, slides, house shoes, slippers, sock shoes should not be worn.

  • See-through outerwear must have clothing underneath that complies with the dress code.

  • No spacers, bars, or gauges will be allowed. Earrings are only allowed for female students.

  • Obscene language or symbols, provocative pictures, or advertising that can be interpreted as promoting, depicting, or insinuating the use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco products, demonism, violence, or of a sexual nature are prohibited on all apparel, jewelry, accessories or exposed body parts is not allowed. 

  • Symbols or slogans on clothing or jewelry that would distract or cause undue attention 

  • Face must be clean-shaven; no beards, goatees, or mustaches. 

  • Heavy spiked hair, mohawks, faux-hawks, etc.; abnormal colored hair is not allowed. Hair at no time should be in students’ eyes.

  • Males’ hair may not be extend past the mid-point of the collar on a dress shirt, below the earlobe, or below the eyebrows. 

  • Males may not wear make-up or fingernail polish. 

  • Tights and leggings may only be worn with a shirt or sweater that is no shorter than 4 inches above the knee.

  • Shorts/Dresses/Skirts/Walking Shorts/etc.; all must maintain dignity while sitting and/or standing and be no shorter than 4 inches above the knee.

  • Final decisions on the appropriateness of school dress rest with the campus administration. If administration determines that a student’s grooming or clothing violates the school’s dress code, the student will be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school. If not corrected, the student may be assigned to in-school suspension for the remainder of the day, until the problem is corrected, or until a parent or designee brings an acceptable change of clothing to the school.
